Excited to be awarded $100,000 from the Workers Lab Innovation Fund!

Starlight was awarded $100,000 from the Workers Lab Innovation Fund to continue and grow the work we have been doing to improve the lives of the workers in America.

Adults in nonstandard work arrangements experienced greater material hardship (including difficulties paying for housing, food, and medical care) across the income distribution.

About one in five employed adults (19.4 percent) reported nonstandard work at their main job 1. Among workers with incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), nearly half (44.4 percent) reported nonstandard work arrangements 2

Co-led by Catherine Xu and Shreenath Regunathan, Starlight is seeking new ways to help struggling working families more easily access government benefits. The Workers Lab’s investment will expand their reach to more workers through partnerships with financial institutions and employers, and accelerate product development to continue delivering benefits in a targeted, personalized way.

We're on a mission at Starlight to redefine how the non-traditional workforce accesses financial resources, particularly through government benefits. In today's gig economy, freelancers, contractors, and part-time workers are an integral part of our economy, yet they often find themselves navigating a complex and outdated system when it comes to accessing the support they deserve.

Thanks to the Innovation Fund, we have been able to grow and scale Starlight’s impact!
